I think your gauge is messed up.
An LPT running 18-19 lbs would hand grenade the engine in a day!
Stock is about 8 lbs, tuned is about 12 lbs no more for a stock motor.

    How quick is this XC?
18 lbs it should be a rocketship but as I said, this engine can't take it. I don't know if it could even make anywhere close to that much boost with a stock turbo and injectors

Sounds like the PO had the ECU reflashed...don't know how to tell but that's a LOT of boost...

Haven't put the R manifold on the T5 yet...it was part of a planned upgrade, but I've been focused on my newest toy: the one with twin turbos and a V-12....

ID:	4602I wish it were a spitfire...or a mustang...anything with that Rolls-designed, Packard-built Merlin engine would be a worthy machine to own...

This is a bit more ground-based, the S600 in my signature: the M275, twin-turbo, V-12 engine is conservatively rated by Mercedes at 493 HP...this big luxury car runs the 1/4 in the mid-12s...HAOZ 129 understands...

The XC is still a fine machine...and is running great...but the MB is something special...

Well dang, Now I'm terrified that I'm going to hurt something internal. I'm sort of assuming the ECU flash is IPD/MTE tune, since it has the IPD/TME upgraded exhaust and an IPD sticker on the back (I know, it's just a sticker), but is it even possible to generate 18 psi of boost from the stock turbo, or would the turbocharger had to have been upgraded to an 18t? Is there any way to tell without removing the turbocharger? I know that ARD offers a tune that gets you up to 18 psi, but it requires a turbocharger upgrade. The IPD tune is said to only get you 14 psi max boost, so I'm wondering if the PO was some teenage tinkerer that tried to do his own tune (that's what scares me!).

Is there any way to confirm any of this with a DICE?

I find it weird that someone would get an upgraded exhaust and go to stage II, without upgrading any intake hoses, vac hoses, TCV, CBV, etc. Everything under the hood was completely stock (until I got a hold of it).

Sorry that my one little question has blossomed into four!

I would ensure that everything was good before doing a tune... But common sense is rare among some of the tuner crowd...you would be surprised how many cars I see that are literally falling apart, smoking, leaking oil, etc...but have $3,000 of wheels and tires...so, you can't really impute what's been done using logic...

18 seems really high...have you verified or calibrated the boost gauge?

    I guess you're right.
No, I haven't calibrated my boost gauge. Just haven't had a chance to hook up the DICE yet. I know I will start messing with that and look up 3 hours later and, well, you know.

The car snaps your head back when you hit 3rd gear, though.

I'll do it this weekend. Looking forward to it!

Ah, reminds me of a friend of mine who, years ago, had a '67 Corvair Corsa Turbo. He paid less than $500 for it despite the car being structurally sound but a bit tatty otherwise. Anyway, his first step in the restoration was to go out and buy a set of Recaros that cost almost $1000. He drove the car around like that for over a year before he really got serious and restored the thing quite nicely. During that time, I used to kid him about tripling the value of the car by just replacing two seats.
