This is the one for the XC90 - with the same gearbox - I found these when researching doing my 2009 xc70 (before writing the article above)

If you do attempt this procedure - please write it up for us

I do not believe the second link in your posting is related to the TF-80SC transmission.

Sorry - yes you are indeed correct - the 1st one is correct - I'll delete the incorrect one now to save confusion

I had a Volvo workshop exchange the gearbox oil in my car, so I don't know the exact procedure.

I bought an XC70 2008 and it supposedly had a trans fluid change. Driving on the highway at high speeds caused a high trans oil temp warning. So I did a change and found it had been overfilled by about 2 qts. And never drained because the plug would not come out, was frozen. Had to use a punch. It has a shift issue from 2-3 that is kind of a 2 step shift, only when warm. I use Toyota T-1V. Have repeated once. The original oil drained had a very odd smell to it also. Still has the shift issue but I just let off the gas for that shift. T-IV viscosity is one of the highest, 7.3 at 100F. Valvoline MaxLife is only 5.91. The trend is lower viscosity to save fuel with the 6 and more speeds. Lots of gears and more friction. But that means more wear IMO. I can't find anything on AW-1 but I was buying T-IV at the Toyota dealer and saw a case of Toyota AW-1 on the counter. Person didn't know what it was for. I would guess it is a lower viscosity. Will stick with T-IV. Mobil 1 is 7.4, so is Valvoline Syn Guard. Mobil multi-veh is 6.4, says compatible with T-IV and AW-1. Mercon V is 7.5. Valvoline import 6.9.
