Question Pulling hard, high RPM (4,000) but going slow

    This is a 2002 V70 XC AWD w/2.4L Turbo.

The car was slowing down but my wife said that it gave her the impression that it was really pulling hard -- whatever that means -- and the tachometer was showing 4,000 RPM. That doesn't sound like "Limp Home" mode to me but I'm not sure that I know exactly what that's supposed to act like.

The Check Engine light came on. It had stored error codes P0234 (Turbo overboost), P0300 (Random misfire) and P0456 (small evap leak).

I figured that I would see some transmission error since the engine was revving much higher than what should be expected at that speed but there were only the three codes shown above.

Does this sound familiar to any of you? If so, what should I be looking at here?

    Thanks in advance.

google "volvo P0234" shows most people suspect the Turbo Control Valve (TCV) and/or the connection hoses.

Op's going to swing by with his car soon and I happen to have an 01 TCV laying around Anyone know if 01/02 TCVs are interchangeable?

iPD shows different TCV PN for 01 and 02 but sell the same HD TCV. One would reason the same HD TCV (I happen to have one of these too) means the TCVs should be interchangeable.

    Just a follow up.

Looked at Op's car. He said wife confessed bumping the autostick to manual thus likely decel in low gear and caused the highRPM.

The car has positive pressure from oil filler hole and ETM hasn't been cleaned (02 118k mi). Repairing the PCV+ETM cleaning is probably the first order of business.

    Yep, Op said sheepishly...

If I knew how to delete a thread I'd delete this one.

OP, don't let your wife feel bad. It happens to me when I use the manual shift and forget about it; probably several times a year.
