Bolt Holes In Door Opening?

Not sure if I can describe this well enough, but when you open the door, you should see some bolt holes at the top of the door section, under the roofline.

Does anyone know what would bolt in here? An add-on trim piece of some kind?

From memory I think they are used during the build of the car or for later in attaching to a jig to ensure the car has not been twisted in a shunt/accident.

There is a rack system that uses those Riv-Nut fasteners.
There were other European makes that have those.
They are still on the newest P3 platform models as I remember seeing them.

The bolt holes are to mount load bars (roof racks) for cars that do not have the roof mounted side rails.
