Default Help - 2005 XC70 Check Engine Light On

Folks - need your help. Today the check engine light came on in my 2005 XC70. My wife wanted to run to the dealer, but, I stopped her (as I've been down that road before). Any common causes that I could fix myself? Any way for me to tell what is causing it w/o forking over lots of cash? Any help is appreciated! thanks

Take it to the local Advance Auto parts - they'll read it for free and reset it, if it's one of the common codes, and not a proprietary one...one common cause that takes no action to correct is a loose gas cap.

IF something is wrong, then that light is coming back on...be prepared for that...and a code is fault detection only, not diagnosis...so don't go throwing parts at it. There are several hundred codes. Guessing about it on the internet is pointless...

    (sigh)
Becoming very common lately on all the threads.
    Are we all mind readers?

    Default Thanks!

Thanks folks... I took it to my local auto parts store, they read the code and it was a short in the ambient air sensor wiring (that I think I caused when I disconnected the power mirror assembly in the course of replacing the glass and fixing the spring). much appreciated!
