Default Dealer says Volvo's dont need water pumps?

So called the dealer and asked for the 105K service quote...he tells me 981.00 I ask whats included, Response: T belt, Oil Ch, Filters, Check this adjust that. So I say what about the water pump? Response: Volvo's normally dont need water pumps. Now am I crazy cuz I know on any other car if I was into a timing belt I damn sure would be replacing the water pump while in there! Any ideas or am I really CRAZY?

    Not crazy, maybe misquided
Volvo water pumps are one of the better parts made and usually don't need to be replaced on the first T belt and usually are not
If you want to, that's up to you

    That's expensive
A 105K service is a small (7500 mi) service... basically an oil change.
Ask for a price on a Tbelt and tensioners install and an oil change ONLY
If all your services are up to date, that's all you should need.
What you need is a breakdown

I did not replace the WP on either car's T-Belt service at 105K. I have one sitting on the shelf, just in case it looked bad on either car when theT-belt came off, but it looked fine on both cars. No leaks yet. When it gets to 210K for the next T-belt, I'll put a pump in...

Now, that said, $981 for an oil change and T-belt? That seems pretty high to me...but I did the work myself...might pay to shop around...I seem to remember my dealer offering a $450 timing belt special or something like that...

So called back and they told me timing belt only is 499. but I would not recieve any Volvo for life updates if needed because that just the t-belt is not a full service. So in order to get the updates I must purchase the 105K service...we talked and I explaned I do all my oil, tranny, fluid changes myself along with filters and such and he seemed to hint that I could delete some of the item on the 105K visit and still get the updates. He is e-mailing the quote now!

My local dealer told me the same thing. I called last week to ask how much the T-Belt was, to get an idea in case I purchased one that needed it, and he told me $590.

I asked about the WP, and he asked me how many miles on the car and if it was leaking. I explained how I was just doing research, and he told me that he won't recommend the WP till the 2nd belt change, unless it happens to be leaking.

As far as I know that has been the unofficial recommendation ever since the white blocks have been used. It is what I have followed and have had no issues, no leaks, no bad bearings.

I wish my dealer quoted me only $590 for a Timing belt! I got a $725 quote, and the same response about the water pump... if its not leaking we don't change them.
