Default Tire replacement on Gen 1 XCs

There has been a contensious thread on SS about which two tires to replace if they're within 3/32" of each other, etc.
This should explain it thoroughly and make it clear for all concerned
(Right out of the Volvo AWD supplement book).

I have posted here at least once and on MVS a few times to explain this and why. It goes against what tire dealers preach and what the tire manufacturers association puts out on wall posters.
The VC tolerates rear overspeeding front due to the one way clutch in VC but rears going slower is exactly what the VC is supposed to stiffen up for to send power to rear. By the way, the one way clutch is overridden up to about 25 MPH so the car has AWD in reverse.

Simple as that and is why that is in the owner's manual.

I do take some issue with their statement about keeping tires in same rotation. Some of the tires Volvo uses on late models cup with no alignment problems and a reverse rotation usually fixes it. Those same tires have issus with that type problem on other makes too. The last time I checked none of the tire manufacturers advised against it any more. That may not be in the OM's of later vehicles though.
