Thread: Bad Volvo Day?

  1. #1

    Default Bad Volvo Day?

I'll give it to you straight. I was working doing some interior/exterior detailing. (2007 XC70) I left the radio on for longer than I think I should have. I started the car and let it run for about 15min. I noticed that the wife had left me with about 20 Miles to empty. I turned off the car and finished up my cleaning (radio on) before going inside, I tried to start it up again and it gave me a really week turnover and never stated. I let it sit for a min (lights and everything off) Tried it again. It was stronger but would not start. After a few more tries the Immobilizer came on and shortly after the battery was dead. I got a jump from someone (attempted jump that is.. still no start) connected to the battery charger over night and still no joy. (even after the 5x lock/unlock to clear the immob.) now I get Traction Control service warning, Reduced engine performance warning, Battery Low warning... I'm still under warranty, so I got it towed to the dealer. I'm here now..

Oddly, there were (LITERALLY) 4 other MY07s TOWED here today with electral problems!

did someone in Gothenberg hit the killswitch?

now I'm waiting...waiting...waiting. I feel like I dropped a loved one off for surgery and I'm waiting to see if they "made it"

any ideas about WTF could be going on?

Agreed, very bizzare, I have an '07 with 93k on it. Last week got the DSTC service warning and the drivers side door open ringer wouldnt turn off.....

Did the lock unlock thing 5x and restarted the car, both problems resolved themselves for now but I dont expect the DSTC one to be fixed for long....

Had a similar experience (my car is 02' though), had a dealer put in a new battery and clear the codes - after that, no problems.

    Default Update!

I actually had to leave it last night and they gave me a loaner... (Strange that my Volvo Dealer gives me a 2011 Dodge Journey) He said something about needing a new ECU!! gonaa take a day or two.. (still under warranty)

I hope they dont try to say anything about me swapping out the stereo.. its been working fine for over a month now... and the iMiv before that for almost 2 years..

OK, I see this every day.
You do not have any problems with the XC.
Your battery is dead and all you need to do is replace it.
It will fix all your problems.

I pray you are correct, but fear you may wrong.

would they really keep my car most of Monday, All of Tuesday and now going into Wednesday (all the while giving me a rental) if it was just the battery?

At this point, I'll believe anything. Guess we will see...

I agree with Ocean Racer. Get that car out of there and take it to someone who knows what they are doing? These guys are preparing to rape you.

    Good luck,

    Exactly.

[idlemind1999] Do a search and see what a dead battery can cause.

A dead / dying battery will cause ALL those issued mentioned.

When my battery was going dead on my MY04, i would be driving along and an open door alarm would go off - left rear door. Then after 5-10 mins, it would squawk that the brake booster was failing and to pull over, then an ECM failure. Then everything would go dead. Nice when your traveling to go camping with your family in the middle of no-where. I would pull over, turn the car off then on again and then the SRS alarm would go off but everything else would be fine. Very weird experience.

Your Volvo is fine. Get a new battery. The dealer repair shop is trying to rip Volvo and you off. The only charge should be a new battery and a SRS reset fee.
