Hello to all. I am new to this forum, but have been an active member over on SS for several years. Nice to see some of the same familiar handles on this forum.
I have just ordered a 2012 XC70 T6 with delivery slated for next February. This car will replace my 2010 V70 3.2, which current has 16.5K miles on the odo. This car has guzzled a quart of oil every 3K miles ever since delivery with no improvement. VCNA has continually maintained that this rate of oil consumption is "normal" and will not allow my dealer to troubleshoot and repair the problem. This is simply BS, as I have corresponded with any number of 3.2 owners who have reported little or no oil consumption between 7.5K service intervals.
Quite frankly, I am tired of being stonewalled by VCNA'S Customer Service [sic] types. Most other customers would probably just walk away from Volvo after this type of treatment. However, I genuinely like the brand; my dealership, from which I have bought four Volvos since 2007, has been superb. They have arranged to get me out of the V70 and into a new XC70. I would have gladly gotten another V70 but, as we all know, it is no longer available in the US. My 2010 V70 was one of the last ones shipped to the US at the very end of the MY run.
So much for the back story. In regard to the topic of this thread, I would have to admit that, unlike many other owners, I found the 3.2 to be adequately-enough powered for my mostly relaxed driving style -- and of course it was the only engine choice available in the V70. However, after test-driving current XC70s with both the 3.2 and T6 engines, I found the T6 to be not only appreciably more responsive and smoother but also far better matched to the transmission. There is of course a modest gas mileage hit with the T6, but it is more than reasonable given the vastly improved overall driving experience.
The ultimate deal clincher, however, was the fact that the T6 leases appreciably better than the 3.2 in either its FWD or AWD variants. Identically equipped, the T6 will cost me a mere $15 a month than the 3.2 FWD. For me, the choice was a no-brainer.
