Engine "hunts." Revs up and down in neutral. OK after restart

Hi There,
Started up last week, and within a minute of driving: no sense of power or acceleration.
Sat in neutral, and engine "hunted" up and down.
Restarted, and problem went away.

Same pattern happened yesterday. Any thoughts? Will be getting an oil change soon, as well as 107K timing belt change.

"Check engine" light and yellow triangle light is on. Message says something re. "Engine service required."
Had mass air flow, body throttle, and ETM reload dones 11/02/10.

Could it be the same problem?

What MY is your car? How is the condition of the air inlet filter?

Opps! It's a 2002 XC70, with 107K. Checked/cleaned the air filter 10 days ago, and the box/inlet were clean. ( Bus a varmit could have gotten in. Will check.
