The best wrench for the canister filter is the factory or IPD wrench.
I've got strap wrenches like the one you show for the M-B...they work OK, but can slip.
The IPD wrench has zero chance of slippage or damage. You can even put a torque wrench on it to get the housing on correctly. If you're going to change the oil on your car, spend the $$ on a correctly fitting wrench. Price has gone up since I bought mine, but here is the link:
