Default Driver Door Open Warning Even When Closed

My 04 XC70 hasn't done this for a while, but it just started back up and I've got a long trip tomorrow that I don't want to have to deal with it on.

I'll close the driver's door, but the car still thinks it's open. It displays the "Driver Door Open" message and chimes at me constantly. I can open and shut the door a few times and it might go away. Other times, it doesn't.

Anyone have a starting point for troubleshooting this? Or at a minimum an easy way of disabling the chime. I saw something about disabling the chime in this thread: http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13729

But didn't see a definitive answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Mine started to do this but it was my battery that was the issue. Is the battery the original?

    Default Original Battery

It is the original battery, but I just had it checked by the dealership two months ago and they said it was good. The car also did this about 3 years ago as well when the battery was much newer. Then it stopped until just now.

What worries me about when this happens, is that after I turn the car off and close the door, the interior floor lights will stay on because it thinks the door is still open.

    Default Door switch?

    Is the door switch faulty?
The opening and closing a few times trick might make me think to look there?

    Thanks.

The exact same thing happened to my '03 tonight, jumped in the car, closed the door, started it and when I tried to wind the window down it wouldn't. All other windows go down by their own switch. And that constant chime plus the lights by the feet.

Anybody got a fix for this, or at the very least where I can look for the cause.

    Thanx

Take the door panel off (2 T25 torx screws in the handle & all the door panel push pins around the edge of the panel.) Check the grey plug connected to the side of the window control switch- My V70 just had this exact issue, the plug disconnected. Fixed both my window control issue and my door chime issue in less than 5 minutes.

The problem is very likely the switch within the door lock assembly. There are two switches in the door lock assembly, one for door locked/unlocked and one for door open/closed and these switches do cause problems and they are also not accessible, it's a seal unit, see attached photo of a cut open door lock module and the blue switches. If is the switch you'll need to buy a new or used door lock assembly and replace.
