Hi folks,
My husband bought me a new tool for my 5k tire rotation project and we wanted to share with you the details. For those of us that are car image nuts, is a tool called a soft socket, which has a lining that prevents damage to the finish on the lug nets. Even with this lining it still fits fine in the lug nut opening on the wheels. If you want to get one for any of your cars, here is the link,

Part number for lug nut socket = 905871 and is $29.95 + shipping

Hey, that's pretty cool. I usually just use a 6 point socket (theorical greater surface contact on flats), and never leave my car unattended around anyone with an impact driver. When I get tires, I take my own torque wrench and tell them I am going to remove the wheels and torque them back on.

A question, though. My '04 was delivered to the dealer on December 1. It didn't come with chromed nuts (bolts). It has bolts that are dull grey, I think they are galvanized.

What does everyone else have?
'04 XC70, Ice White, Taupe. Original owner (196K miles as of may21). 6 wheel bearings, broken ignition switch, broken turbo downtube flange, failed throttle body, many warped rotors, and a myriad of weird crap. Still my favorite car ever.

Every XC I saw were equipped with chromed nuts. After 3 years, some of mine were rusted. My dealer replaced all of them free of charge under warranty. I asked the service guy if I should put ordinary (galvanized) bolts on my winter wheels with hubcaps. Regular bolts are $1.00 CDN a piece. A set of 5 chromed ones, ... well, $48.00 CDN. Go figure
