Default Air Conditioning Only Sorta Works

    Good morning!
When the AC is first turned on in my new to me 2003 XC70, plenty of cold air flows, but after a while (20 minutes), it gets quite stuffy in the cabin (though it stays coolish in the footwells). The vents in the dash don't blow. This is with the Electronic Climate Control set to "Auto". Turning the fan all the way up does get some air going, but it isn't very cool.

    Ideas?

I had somewhat similar issue with my 02. Had the system drained and cleaned and filled with fresh R134a + calibrated climate control. All works well, now.

Do you mind telling me the cost of that work?
Is it something that must be done by the dealer?

Yes, at the dealer. There was an AC service special for $150 at Boston Volvo.

listen for the compressor cycling on and off. If you hear it cycling frequently, like every 5 sec, it means is low in refrigerant.

If you are mechanically inclined, you can recharge it yourself and add the refrigerant that has the leak dye in it.

If there is a leak in the system , then the uv goggles will spot the site of the leak next time.

Nice. For $50 you can get your own A/C manifold and a can of Freon and do the whole job yourself. The only thing that's special about the dealer service is the extra $100 you get to part with.

There are other things to check but first try it on MANUAL adjustment, do not use "auto" and report back
