    Exclamation Roof Loads

Ok guys, time to put your collective brains together and help me out. I know the max roof load recommended by Volvo and Thule is 200 lbs, but I am going to be racing a Finn Sailboat, which weighs about 300lbs with dolly, and want to car top it on the roof. I have done this with my old 240 wagon, but want some advice before doing this with the xc70. I would get four of the thule cross bars to distribute the weight. Do you think it can handle it?

Why not get a trailer for something that big?

I have put probably 300lbs on my roof with a Yakima top box and kayaks. I've damaged the factory roof rack as a result though, now they squeak like crazy. The noise is coming from flex in at the center pillar. I need to pull the factory racks off and see what the deal is, but I suspect I broke something.

Car topping is just all around more convenient for me, but if it turns out that I cant make this work, I will go for the trailer. Any more suggestions?
