Where did you find a rebuilt VC? I found a place in CA that rebuilds VC's but have not received a response about this one.

    Erie quoted $275 for a 99+

Late 98 - 00 VC's can be interchanged. I've used all three years in my late 98.

I bought a used one from either Stranberg or VandS (forget which) the first one (from a 98) was bad - made noise & clunk on decel and then the freewheel ramp springs must have failed, as it sounded like there was a tin can of ball bearings attached to the underside of the car. I had them send me one from an '00, and it's been fine. I have since parted out a '99 & an '00, so I saved the VC's from these. I also have a couple of spare Angle Gears, since I have a tendency to explode them

The '98 casing is not designed to withstand repeated 6K holeshots at the track. The '99 -'00 casing uses smaller OD pinion bearings, so has more meat in the surrounding casing.

Yes, but they can be interchanged, just like angle gears.. The difference are thing like center bearing size, etc, which do not impact the flange fitment, or overall length which didn't change in those years.

Basically, late 98 - 00 can be interchanged/swapped as needed. I've done it.

I rather doubt the diff will make that banging noise, the vc is notorious for that symptom.
