Spent $878 and 95 cents to have a DDM (Driver's Door Module) replaced. That really, really hurt, but it was better than driving around with plastic duct-taped over the open windows.

    Maintenance:

    • Detailed the car, inside and out (with exception of waxing, waiting on some Klasse)
    • Changed air filters- inside and out
    • "Forever Blacked" all the little plastic bits
    • Sanded and polished the headlights clear again
    • New tires on the front
    • New front control arms (I had help on this one, from a local Volvo guru- it was a bear!)
    • Front end alignment (I didn't do this)
    • Changed oil and filter
    • New brake pads on the rear
    • Installed a new rubber gasket in the console cup holder

    Next week:
    • Install front brake pads and rotors
    • Change brake fluid
    • Change trans fluid and Magnafine filter
    • Change gasoline filter
    • Change antifreeze
    • Change power steering fluid
    • Change spark plugs
    • Check all hoses and turbo
    • Install passenger seat bottom cover. (old one got stained by grape cola)

Going to be a busy weekend coming up.
    Wish me luck!

    Bought some winter tires.

    Volvo OE steel rims
    Volvo Hub Caps
    Hankook Icebear w300

Used for 2 winters on a 2006 v70 that was returned off of a lease.
Found 'em on Craigslist for $400 Cdn.

I plan to put them on this weekend.

Your XC looks too low to be an XC . Did you lower the car somehow ? Or is it a V70 that looks like an XC

Changed coolant today. Easiest rad to drain ever, and removed hose off oil cooler underneath (only about 1/2 litre came out here) for the rest. Major pain in the ass, however, to burp all the air out.....had level in reservoir drop about 3 times over all before it was safe enough to take for a drive. Even after a 15 minute drive the level had dropped again. Temp gauge reading normal, both heater hoses hot, both rad hoses hot and cooling fan working. I was doing this with the nose up on ramps, and when I got it hot and backed down off the ramps there was a major expulsion of air and a subsequent top-up. This should be done with the car level if possible. The reservoir is full now but I will be checking again in the morning to make sure all air has come out. I consulted with a Volvo tech buddy of mine and he said they can be cranky due to the amount of plumbing under there. Word of warning: if your car has a few years on it DON'T try to loosen the drain cock in the rear......you will twist the pipe and break it. I took several stabs at mine with moderate pressure (just enough to see the pipe flex but no damage done) and it would not loosen. It's easier to just take one of the hoses off the oil cooler.

    Default New HU

Installed HU 850, center speaker and clamshell for Garmin GPS.

    Monday AM update:
Great sounding tunes this AM on the way into the nut house!!!! Wish I could have afforded to add the HU850 sooner.

Forgot to mention that I ordered 4 Nokian WR G2 XL in 235 60R16. They arrived in less than 24 hours from Tire Factory!!! A discount and free shipping direct to the tire shop I use. They get installed on Friday.

My old Nokian WR's have 37,000 miles.

Default First weekend to work on the XC.

So here are my first modifications, improvements on my new XC.

Finally got the Michelin winter tires installed on the new steel wheels. I learned that when you order TPMS sensors you need the o-ring, nut, and cap service kit (30736598-9) also. That set me back a week because the dealer ran out...

Also, installed an iMiv ipod adapter. While it wasn't easy, it was quite possible for someone without much car experience with the help from swedespeed and of course PaperToast's vadis copy.

Thanks for all the help here. This information is invaluable to someone like me.

    Cheers,
    Andy
