Replaced the upstream A/F sensor.
PDX-Vancouver, USA
2005 XC70 140,000
Rear passenger side wheel bearing for the second time!
Tire rotation. Oil change. Filters. Angle gear fluid change (so easy with the drain plug mod!!). Rear differential fluid change. Transmission fluid flush.
And...
It looks like I’ll be doing an axle next week... 🙄

Photos coming soon.
Just bought a 2006 XC70 a few months ago. Had 286,500kms on the clock.
Since then I have:
Re-built the auto trans $4200
Replaced timing belt + components, new water pump and also replaced what looked like original fuel filter $1900
Replaced MAF sensor + housing $450
Vehicle is now at 290,000kms and up next is PCV replacement.
New tyres , bushings, engine mounts, sway bars, suspension components etc all on the list.
Interior is in great shape and exterior in great shape too besides a few minor scuff marks , slightly foggy headlights, and plastics starting to fade.
Will update with progress.
TOX
We took the 2002 X/C up the mountain and into the snow to test it after major work; Yeah everything worked well!
I changed:
Engine oil and filter
Air filter
Transmission fluid (Gibbons flush)
Angle gear oil
Rear differential oil
Rotated tires
Adjusted parking brake
Then I replaced the driver's side axle.
What a complete PITA. With the car on my Quickjack, I could not hit the chisel hard enough to pop the axle out from the case. I only had 18" of swing, at best, and was swinging upward while laying on my back with a 3lb machinist hammer. After 2 hours of trying, it finally popped out. The inside of the differential into which this thing fits looked like the surface of Mars - all red and dusty. The rust was really holding this in place...
I used a GKN axle. Bought new. Works great, no vibration. I would've re-booted the factory axle, but the boot had completely separated and there was no grease in the tripod joint, it was all over the frame and transmission case. I couldn't trust the condition of the tripod, and when I got it out, I could see signs of rust-colored spalling in the joint itself...so it had run dry for a while. No noise, no indication, but it was gone...so a new axle was the right call.

I see it happens to everyone ... I´m afraid thinking about the day I will have to remove the driver's side axle.
I've always used one of these pry bars (https://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-3318-1...gateway&sr=8-2). Just put it between the inner CV and a block of wood laid against the gearbox case to spread the load; then apply even pressure to pop the CV out of the case. I live in a high corrosion environment and have never had a problem popping the inner CV out using this method. Even worked on my current XC when I first got it at 235K kms and after it had sat a for some time out in salt air with the original drivers side halfshaft. And yes, the splines were dry, rusty and red (BTW, I always use copper-based anti-seize on the splines when installing halfshafts).
Cheers,
Bill

Ok, I take note, thanks. Would be a good idea spraying anti-rust from days before?
