Cool WD-40 to protect undercarriage ?

Hello anyone out here tried WD-40 on their undercarriage to keep it clean. I am only talking about the plastic parts, wheel wells, side black trim etc. Some Jeep GC / Toyota 4runner forums recommend using it. I have not tried it yet myself.

No point of using it, it's going to get dirty anyhow. Just use a water hose and spray off the dirt often.

I would be concerned with the solvent properties of WD40. I use just the
standard spray tire shine stuff when I want to detail a vehicle.

I'm with dmd- WD40 after sitting on plastic and rubber for a while, can eat away at those parts. Good for rust and crude, bad for fittings and connectors

The best thing to use..works awesome... is spraying the kitchen spray, non stick for your pots and pans and etc. Spray this instead of WD40 and works really well. We sprayed our football cleats in high school and our cleats never caked up with mud and the other team were slipping all over the field. I tried this and man it really works.
