I won't win, but my Feb 2001 V70XC currently has 258,800km on it. No major problems. Not too many minor problems either.

I have 178,000 miles on my 2001 wagon. I'm the original owner and she keeps going well as long as we maintain wearing parts. As an aside, the body is still pristine, no rust etc, which is amazing for a car that has been in Maine most of its life.
^^^Original Tranny, motor, ect? Tell us what you have had to do!

2001 xc70 104000 miles
new streeing rack(leaking badly and tuff to turn before replacement)
altenator
front a arm bushings
new gasket on angle gear
new right rear wheel bearing
still gets 27 mpg on highway
body in good shape
also own 1998 v70 170000 miles
2005 s40 2.4 31000 miles
204213 miles (328649 km) - had it since 25 miles if I remember correctly.
Original transmission - no trouble. Original battery, which I find unbelievable.
Lots of suspension expenses. Replaced the ETM (reimbursed thanks to info on this site) Broke down on us twice; once went into "limp mode" and required a tow, the other time it would not start and required a very long tow from the mountains to a Denver area dealer.
I must say that, while the body and paint still look great, the bumper and side cladding (blue) look terrible - very faded and with light streaks.

I won't win either, but its good to hear others folks having good luck.... 2004 XC-70, 141,000 miles. 105K service w/timing belt etc. Set of brakes, a very annoying a deblitating ignition lock that LOCKED and wouln't move, and an almost dead battery which caused the computer to go bonkers and lock/unlock the doors nonstop.
My wife drives for work, almost all highway. Loves the car, hoping for more years of good service from it. (knock knock..)

There was someone who used to post (forget his name) that used his XC in a 'livery' service - taking people to and from the airport - he finally got rid of it at 250,000 miles. But, he said he and the previous owner had spent a lot to keep it running.
I think it's like the Car Talk guys have said. "Volvos will run forever, as long as you are willing to keep throwing money at them."
But then, I guess you could say that about any car.

Sold our 2001 with 155k on the clock. Original motor and transmission. Original AWD. I did make sure the tires were never more than 7,500 off. Would you believe it, the car never had a flat in 155k miles. So glad that anxiety is past.
Regarding Car Talk, they are right. The 2001-2007 has a very durable body. There was no rust after 8 solid years in the Upper Midwest salty roads. Try that in a Honda...
The cars are very expensive to maintain. Volvos tend to last because they have durable steel and deep pocketed owners. An XC will go 200,000 miles, but only with enough fixing money to put a kid through a year of college.
