    Smile Answers for Bruce Taylor

    Bruce,

I agree this is a great forum! To answer your questions:

The cover over the washer is broken and there is a small piece missing from the arm itself at the pivot end. The cover doesn't guide the spray, just protects the fragile nozzle (I found out the hard way!). The piece missing from the arm doesn't seem to be critical. The flat part of the nozzle should be on the bottom and parallel to the bumper so the little silver jets point up. You can turn it gently, its stuck in a brass tube which seems to be inserted in an o-ring. The silver jets can be aimed by inserting a needle and pivoting to fine tune the shot. I attached some pictures for your reference. Also a forum sticker photo (thanks Art)

    Hope this helps,

    Harold.

Thanks, Harold. It helps a lot. I don't know how the flat part of the nozzle ended up pointing the wrong way...must have happened when the cover was broken (possibly while someone was chipping ice off the window).

Does it matter whether I turn the sprayer clockwise or counterclockwise?

Congrats on your repair. Looks like you're not so "crazy" after all.

    Default Turn either way

It doesn't matter which way you turn it. The nozzle is pressed into a brass tube which is just friction fit into rubber or plastic, enough friction to prevent water leaks. Turning the nozzle will probably turn the tube as well which will just rotate in the rubber or plastic. There are no threads, so nothing will loosen or tighten when you turn it.

Well, that was easy. Why didn't I think of it?

    Thanks again, Harold.

    Gentlemen,

Both this site and your guidance are awesome! I was able to purchase both a replacement rear nozzle and cover for less than $20US, including shipping. Following your excellent technical instructions, I am absolutely confident I will be able to successfully repair my trusty Scandinavian steed--much to the disappointment of my children, who like the idea of being able to squirt cars following too closely (they have never heard of 'road rage'!).

    Thanks for the assist!

    Hello forum contributors,

I want to echo Larry Wilkes, to thank you as I have had the same good experience. I ordered the parts Sunday from www.swedishautoparts.com Sunday. Arrived Wednesday. Installed today (Thursday). The tip about using a small screw to dig out the broken stem was A-1.

    Thanks again,
    Eric

Larry, where, may I ask, did you get the nozzle cover from? Do you have the part number by chance?

    Thanks,

    Owen

    Owen,

I think that it really depends on your MY/Chassis # as the configuration of the resting position (rt side vs lft side) for the rear wiper arm (and possibly the wiper arm itself) changed in 2003. The chassis number is the last 6 digits of your VIN.

    More here.

I just replaced mine. Actually the dealer broke it and replaced it for free. They said its about $5.

Its easy to do. If you pull out on the rounded side it unclips. It will hinge forward. You then have to slide it off the two pins on the side closest to the wiper.

With a new one in hand you will see what I mean.

If you get real stuck let me know. I'll pick one up for you and mail it. Since I haven't read this entire thread that offer goes out to anyone thats stuck. So let me know I'm leaving for the weekend and back Sunday.

Keep in mind that the part # is different depending on the MY and chassis number of the vehicle as was explained in my previous post. The part number should be visible on the inside of the cover.

    Chassis # 104874 = Part # 9483518
    Chassis # 104875 = Part # 30753642
