Default Southwest, Crand Canyon Trip, Dial-up beware

For those of y'all that haven't been to the southwest, you're in for a treat. Took a weekend trip last week to visit folks in Phoenix and i took the scenic route through west Colorado, southeast Utah, and northeast Arizona down to Phoenix. Also went to the Grand Canyon. (didn't take the XC there though) Got tons more pics, but I didn't want to overload the post.

    started on march 6.
Heading west on I-70 out of Denver at around 7:40 am.

One of 2 high points on the route. The other is at the Eisenhower tunnel.

Making my way towards Grand Junction and the Utah border.

Utah doesn't know what they're in for .

heading south on US 191 towards Moab. Lots of kool rock formations.

stopped for lunch south of Moab.

    Back on the road.

And the road goes on, and on, and on . . .

Had to play tourist a little.

The east end of the Grand Canyon.

Made it into Phoenix later that night. Next day headed to the Grand Canyon. The pics that follow don't do justice to the real deal. The scope of the canyon is huge.

They even got some snow the night before.

Left on Monday morning. Some interesting stuff on the way back.

    Somewhere in northeast Arizona.

The road goes on, and on, and on, and on . . .

Made a stop at 4 Corners National Monument

Back in Colorado on US 160.

. . . Then there's Wolf Creek Pass. 10850 ft of fun snow/ice driving. No match for the Nokians though .

Shot of the Sangre de Christo Mountains along US 285.

Nice full moon for the evening drive to Denver.

    Last pic of the trip.

All in all it was a fun trip. saw lots of the country that i had never been to before.
lots of driving, but th xc made nice and comfy. total miles was about 1800 give or take.
if anyone wants full res pics of the grand canyon just let me know and ill hook you up.

    Hope yall enjoy

    Default the Roadtrip

    Papertoast,

Those are amazing pics of the American SW and just enough to seal the deal for me. I've been contemplating my 'Freedom 55 Roadtrip' for next year. I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon, Arizona and Colerado, and now, thanks to you and your great pics, I know where I'm heading.

Thanks again for sharing these with us. (Nice car, btw.)

    Jules
