    Default Great Site

I joined after I bought my 2004 XC70. I thought the site interesting and maybe some good information and then found the post on changing the default settings on the radio. I can not believe how much better my radio sounds. I have found items that I did not you could even have adjusted (seat warmer heat, auto door locks) and am making a list for my first service. Thanks, Mike in Arizona

I joined - rather than lurk - to be able to find out more about the XC50. I own a TD4 Freelander (our second Freelander) which we bought new in December 2002. We have been very happy with them and won't be changing for some time yet. I always like to keep an open mind and before getting the last Freelander I drew up a shortlist of vehicles and weighed the pros and cons of each. That is why I am interested in the XC50 - if it ever happens - as it could well be a contender for our next change.

We get a lot of snow in the winter and ground clearance is important as it can get quite deep. I have owned three Land Rovers, one Defender and the two Freelanders, but would never dream of going off road. I noticed that the XC70 has a better ground clearance than the Freelander so that is why the Volvo is being considered. I realise that the XC50 would be built on the same platform as the next generation Freelander so, in theory, should have the same ground clearance.

I want to be able to get a feel of how Volvo owners are treated by their dealers and if they are happy with their purchase. Also I can see what problems are reported.

I will continue to "lurk" and will probably not post until the XC50 news starts to hot up. Hope you don't mind.

    Thumbs up Think again andyfr

Hi andyfr, you're most welcome, even if you are 'lurking', some people here still do not have their Volvo but they still join in so don't hang around too long, ask questions.

In answer to your post, I can only make the following comments.

There is no XC50 that Volvo are crowing about at the moment, and if they did produce a XC50 I think it would be on the same chasis as the V50 which is the platform for the Ford Focus and Mazda 323. I think the XC50 is going to be a V50AWD rather than a XC50. This will be to introduce a younger breed of driver into the Volvo family. The other new crossover/SUV that you are talking about (using the freelander?? chasis) will be the XC60. This will be a miniture XC70 priced at the younger driver again. The XC70 is midway through its life, hence the facelift and will be retired in about four years time, max.

During this period Volvo will be able to see what way the market is going with regards to SUV/crossovers and will have to come up with a replacement XC70 and XC90 for that matter as it will only have another three years left in its life.

I can't see you coming from a 'Landrover' to a V/XC50 as the present V50 is a very small car whereas the XC70 is very comparable to the Landrover/Freelander if not slightly bigger inside. I came from a SWB Landcrusier to the XC70 and found the size change very easy, except for the height (which I don't miss).

I have been offroading in the 70 and taken it up & down a bank of 40 degrees (which at that angle everything loose in the car falls off, and had it on a 30 degree bank sideways (which meant your head was directly/vertically above the passenger seat. As I was on my own I could not take a picture of the action but all I can say is, I was pretty scared at what it could do without it rolling.

I would suggest to try a XC70 for a weekend or so and see what it could do for you as I think you will be very surprised at what it can tackle. There is not much I would not put that car to do without it failing as I have all confidence in its ability to complete the task without moaning.

The only other comparable car to the XC70 is the Audi Allroad but I will stick with another XC70.

    Thanks for the welcome AWD*V70XC.

I did have a look at a XC70 last week and was very impressed. We won't be changing for a few years yet as we tend to change the main car when it is 5 years old. On the Freelander forum there was mention of the upcoming Volvo XC50 which would use the same platform as the new Ford Focus and the next generation Freelander. You are obviously better informed here about Volvo vehicles as I hadn't heard about an XC60 before. If, as you say, this is the one which is going to be built on the Freelander platform then that would be of interest to me.

I will look in and post occasionally. Thanks for the invite.

    Andy.

I joined because we are about to take ownership of a new 04' XC. This will be my 5th volvo wagon and I miss every one of them esp. the last one. The forum seems solution oriented and "about the business" of volvo's so count me in. The XCs are very very different from my past Volvo's.

    Default You were spotted

The driver of an 'ASH GOLD' XC70, with five volvoXC.com stickers was spotted this week on the Isle of Wight.

So rare are the decals and the cars in the UK, that information including the licence plate number was given to me by the spotter.

You have been tagged, now ID yourself

BTW love your reg number, same as mine V70 ???

I found this site almost two years ago, and have always enjoyed all of the work that has been put into it. I joined the site sfter FINALLY getting my own XC. We have always been a Volvo family with our first purchase made in 1974. We still have a 245 and an 850 in our garage we plan on keeping around.
I think Coastal single-handedly seduced me into my XC with all of the brilliant photos he's managed to post over the years. Seem's he's pretty much an amateur photographer too.
I've always enjoyed reading how enthused most everyone here is about these magnificant motorcars. I look forward to posting our own pictures from the New England states and the Eastern coast, and to contributing what I can to those eager to hear it.

My wife and I were out shopping for her S60 and for some reason the XC70 seemed to be staring at me from across the showroom floor. It definately caught my eye. I went back a few times and looked again. I told my wife I must really be getting old because I actually find this station wagon attractive. I searched google and ended up here. Once I saw the enthusiasm, wit, and knowledge of the members, I was hooked. The site it'self is very well done and the quality of the communication going on between members is outstanding. I joined in, learned a lot more about the XC70 and made the purchase.

Gotta get some of those decals.

I found out about this site BEFORE i bought my xc70
I discovered this forum indirectly via www.telemarktips.com.
I did a "volvo" search on telemarktips and viola, many skiers on that website own xc70s and had many positive things to say. As a contributor on that site for over 3 years, I have personally met many and discovered there are some solid bright people and a slew of engineers on that site. One of the characters on that site, known as steelman, directed me to www.xc70.com...BINGO. I found all the data i needed in making my descion to purchase.
    great site
    informative
    thanks to you all.
i will be ordering my stickers this week.
