    Default Gas Mileage Poll

I was looking to pick up a used XC90 and was wondering what kind of gas mileage I could expect based on the different engine options. I already own a 2001 V70XC and get about 26mpg Highway and 20 City.

    Thanks

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

My 2003 T6 manages a combined MPG of 18.5. Probably need some longer journeys to get a good average as it's done mainly short runs since it was reset.

The high RON (98) pertrol should give more than the standard (95). My wife filled-up with 95 and my average is now dropping.

2.5T gets around 21 on the freeway (75MPH) and around 16 mixed.

Please research the engine/trans combinations. T6 is one to stay away from
because of potential trans issues. 2.5T is very solid. 3.2 looks OK but for
some with seal issues. V8 gets better milage on the open road if that is
what it will mainly be used for.

Mileage on my 2005 5-cyl turbo XC90 isn't great -- in the low teens around town. Can usually bump the average up to about 18.5 with long highway trips. Love the car, but had no idea the mileage would actually be worse than my '98 Grand Cherokee. Egad.

Great, thanks for the input. I was hoping to get a mixed of about 20. Guess I"ll wait until the the XC60 comes out to see what it's like. I already have a GMC envoy that gets a mixed of about 17, so I don't it's worth upgrading yet.

No XC90 will get mixed that high, they are way too heavy

Picked up my '08 XC90 V8 two weeks ago. 2000 miles so far. 85 or 87 octane fuel - depending upon altitude and availability. 36 psi in the tires.

Highway @ 75-80 on the cruise: 22-24 MPG
Urban; a mix of freeway, stop and go, and speeds between 30-45: 17 MPG.

BTW, local Union 76 station a few blocks from here: Self-serve Regular: $4.19.9, full-service Super: $4.89.9. Two weeks ago returning from Lake Tahoe: LeeVining/Independence, CA (CA 395): $4.39.9 regular self-serve.

    Cool

I am a new owner on a recent trip i got 23.3 mpg over 400 miles of driving on my 2007 xc90 v8 using 91 octane, mountain, hwy, mixed driving. I am impressed. The next time I would like to get the mileage on relatively straight roads with the cruise control on.

The best my beloved 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee v8 ever got is 16.9 for a very well maintained automobile.
