Fistst check to see if what has gone out is the back light or something something more.
Take a small MAGLITE and point it at the LCD at an angle of say 45deg. If you can see the clock, then you know all it is is the back light. I had the same thing happen to my old Grand Am and if the sun was shining against it, i could see it, if it was dark or in the shade i could see nothing, .. chaged a 50 cent bulb and all was well. Dealer wanted 400+ to replace the entire unit .. HA
That stuff is all digital.......there are no bulbs in there........something like an LCD monitor.Fistst check to see if what has gone out is the back light or something something more.

Dave.
Dave: I understand, but there is always a back light. The "something" behind the LCD monitor is expensive, the something behind the LCD in your car might not be. I'm telling you what I have done in the past.
Either way, you'll know if the module is gone all together or if just the backlight, whatever that light may be; LED, floorescent, or incandescent. Whatever it is, you'll know if that's what's burned out.
Omega 5 is correct. There is a backlight, and if it is burned out, the display all but disappears.
It is the backlight that is out. The display is still there. How do take the cluster apart to get the bulb out?
Instructions on how to remove the DIM can be viewed in the link below (steps 1-6).

There are at least a dozen bulbs that illuminate various parts of the instrument panel.
