    Default Low Coolant Warning

The low coolant sensor must be very sensitive. Took the wife's S80 to the dealer and after checking VADIS they added eight ounces of coolant. Since then the warning has not reappeared. Now I am starting to get the same warning message with my XC70. Does Volvo use any special coolant (other than it being green). I have a gallon of name brand coolant and would like to add a little of this to the XC70. Anything wrong in doing that?

I would recommend absolutely staying away from DexCool. If I were replacing the fluid in one of my Volvo's I would use either Volvo's fluid, or, more likely, Xerex's G05. G05 is OEM to Mercedes and a number of other marks. No matter which product you use be sure to use distilled water when you come up with the 50/50 mix.

Could you add the Xerex G05 to the OEM or would you replace OEM fluid?

I agree - when the thermostat on my 850 was replaced, the (non franchised) workshop filled up with non-OEM coolant fluid - the resultant rust and mess cost many hours and two flushes with rust removing / neutralising chemicals [= $$] to fix.
