    Default Tire sizes

What is the tallest tire that will fit on the XC's? Is anyone running a 225/75/16? also does anyone have a recommendation for a VERY aggresive offroad tire? road noise is the last thing I'm worried about.

I have never seen anyone running that size tire in this forum. I would advise against anything larger than 235/65/16 to replace the OEM size.

OK I've read those and still can't get an answer. does anyone know if a 225/75 will physically fit on the car without rubbing too bad while turning (some rubbing will be tolerable)? these won't really be replacing the OEM tires, they'll be used almost exclusively for mud and very deep snow.

I can't really answer you, but I am seeking the same answer; so if you find out, reply back here.

I wonder if there are any lift kits for the V70XC. I know there are for the Outbacks.

I am running 215/70/16 Geolanders on my 2002 XC70 without any issue. My next push will be hopefully to the 225/75/16.....

A 75 tire is a pretty tall tire for a very small wheel well (compared to the size of these cars)!
Pretty sure it will rub at least on lock

I would first check to see how much clearance is left between the top of the tire to the spring pearch on the strut. The sidewall of the 225/75R16 is .80 inches taller than the 215/70R16 tire.

So due to tire companies vary size with the same size tire i would make sure that you have at least another inch of clearance all around the tire and check clearance while the tire is fully locked left and right to see if you have a inch clearance all around.

To be honest that is a really big tire for this car since when IPD lifted KEN's XC70 they used 255/65R16 which are actually smaller ( there wider but smaller in height) than the 225/75R16 you want to run and they had to weld on new plates to the strut to make it taller since the top of the tire smashed into the bottom of the strut and the car won't move.

Also remember that none of the lift spring can help you with taller tires if there touching the bottom of the strut.
