I'm coming up on 200K miles Astro and have similar oil consumption to you. I change oil every 5K with Penzoil Platinum or Castrol Euro 5W/30 and the performance seems the same as it did 10 years ago...

I'm pretty sure oil is aluminum, but I have a few copper ones too. I just replaced my angle gear fluid and it uses copper. I can't remember what the tranny uses!

Axle? Brake shield? I would put it up on jackstands and turn each wheel by hand while listening, hopefully that will help you pinpoint the issue.

I agree with Hoonk, sounds like your fluid level might be off. See if you can get it to the correct level, then work on getting new fluid in.

You were correct VTL. I ended up getting the Volvo inner & outer kits and they came w/ different grease.
