I purchased my 04 XC70 last May and since I've owned it I have replaced both headlight bulbs multiple times. Obviously something is wrong besides the cheap bulbs that I'm purchasing online. I've read...
I'm joining the list of seat latch victims as well. I finally got it to release by jamming a screw driver in from the front right under the plastic push tab and pushing it against the metal lever of...
Wow man, sharp looking car and a real bummer that it had to go! I can relate with you that as life moves along it brings changes that are permanent and we must adjust to them. As I move deeper into...
Ha, OK I definitely understand the glib reply now JRL, it's pretty much a non-event event. I backed the car up on ramps, removed the two nuts on each side on the bottom, got inside and removed the...
After determining that my 98 XC is in fact a FWD (prop shaft in place, only front wheel spinning on snow) I decided to sell it as a FWD and purchase another AWD. I found a 98 V70 AWD (GLT, not XC)...
Hey Tanith, welcome to the family! Always great to have n00bs join us!
These cars are awesome and you will soon develop a deep love/hate relationship with your XC. You will love the handling and...
I posted recently on another thread that I experienced the same issue when removing my prop shaft a year ago. The end cap was rusted into the VC housing and it separated when I yanked on it to remove...
I think I know what the issue is. When I removed the prop shaft on my white '98 a year ago the rear section of the prop shaft was rusted in the VC housing and wouldn't come out easily. I yanked on...

Whoa!!!! Do I detect some actual humor coming from JRL??
<snicker>
now you've officially met JRL

Miles?
I don't think the clusters changed until the 99 model, but I wouldn't bet the farm on that one. Anyway, you likely touched the hot wire of the courtesy light on the bolster to some grounded piece......
Loaded/unloaded with brake fluid... means bleeding the system is a bit easier. Not so much air to displace. But I have the exact same rusted off cable. Have ordered the replacement but have not yet...
What year is your car? I know there is a difference between 98s and the later ones. Have you isolated the short yet?
Sounds like either one of the rods on the handle or the lock may have become disconnected. I'm guessing that the issue has been remedied by now. :o
Welcome Don! These are great cars for sure! I have the same exact car but in white with about 165k. The AWD feature was kick-butt this winter since we had more winter than the previous ten or fifteen...
Haha right on bronson that is great news indeed! And I have also dropped some of those teeny tiny screws in various locations including inside the radio and you're correct- it's a bee-hatch to get...
It's my understanding that our 98's are the only ones that won't reset by any other method than the dealer or removing the bulb.
It sure looks like an 850 to me BUT I do know that the Canadian versions of these cars are different from the ones we have here in the States. Difficult to tell from the picture but it has an 850...
Right on vova that's awesome! A little ingenuity is frequently needed with these cars. Hopefully that pesky CEL will stay OFF! [thumbup]
Wow, right on that's definitely encouraging!! Did you use a cherry picker to lift the engine out or do you have a hoist? I've actually done it using a skid loader a few times back in the day on some...
Well that certainly would not surprise me, although one of the criteria for the trade-in vehicles was that it was in "driveable condition", whatever that means. That's a real bummer about the 00 JRL!...
The used car market was profoundly affected by the clunker program of 09. The value of our XCs rose dramatically this past year due mostly to the simple rule of supply and demand. They are bringing...
Well it certainly could be the motor but be sure that the "On/Off" switch on your master switch on the driver's door is in the "On" position (it disables the passenger door window switches in the...
