cooper, what grade gasoline? regular, midrange, or premium. See this thread: http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showth...70-motor-blown
My MY04 just rolled over 200K. Best used car ever.
Have an 04 that was my father's originally, now mine. It's at 285k miles. Outside of a slight shudder on acceleration between 50-60mph runs like a champ.
Realize I'm just middle of the pack but this car has been flawless. Original owner now at 325,000 kms (210,000 miles). Very modest maintenance - 2 sets of brakes, 1 timing belt/PVC/pump and tranny oil replaced at 220kms (I know), 1 driver side coil spring, 3 wheel bearings, tuneup at 200kms and faithful synthetic oil changes (at least I did something right). Car runs through the Rocky Mountains, is regularly on back roads and has towed 3,000 lb sailboat or been overloaded for 10% of her life. Currently burns 1 litre per 5,000 kms. Still rock solid with perfect shifts, no electrical issues and everything working 100%. I fully expect to hit over 400,000 kms (~250,000 miles) before she leaves me. Love this rig and the way she has treated me.
2001 XC70 with 255,000. Body in great condition. Within last 30k, did the Gibbons method transmission flush, replaced front and rear differential oil, front brake lines, brake fluid flush, new front control arms. Last oil analysis showed the engine to be in great condition. Unfortunately a timing belt tensioner failed while driving at highway speed. 99% certain valves are bent and motor is toast. Trailered 350 miles back home. Likely going to the Aurora, CO Upull And Pay junk yard.
-98 V70 XC 304 000km.
Good condition.
My previous car vas 850 AWD and the chassis was in better shape, not a single spot of rust.
But everything else was neglected so the list what I should've fixed was a 1,6km long.
XC2002 2.4T . 252k kM. No rust whatsoever. both rear-wheel bearings replaced, front struts replaced, fuel filter, som rust welding on back exhaust. Runs great. Only normal maintenance. Have been adviced against doing any 4x4 or transmission flush so haven't done so. Still wrecks most boy-racers giving 250bhp and 410Nm, it's a crazy train in family car disguise with sunvisors and all. :)
Just picked up a 2005 XC70 for $700. Currently has 344,000 miles on it and surprisingly, everything works (the body is in great shape too). It needs new tires and a wheel alignment by the looks of the wear on the tires. Slight wobble in the front end in the curves, so I am thinking wheel bearings and/or CV joints as well. Engine runs smooth.
Going for tires and a full inspection on Wednesday.
