Hello all,
My 2004 XC, 45000mi experiences an occasional hesitation while accelerating from stop. Occasionally, while at stop, idle will momentarily drop to 600 rpm and cause a mild shudder. Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks

surely I'm not the only one!
01 xc70 with 145 000km had emission system service message for a month without any simptoms. In a volvo service had 3 error codes diagnosed (long term fuel trim ,front and rear o2 sensors not working properly-I don't remember the exact codes).Recently, probably to cold weather, idle droping and hesitation on acceleration on cold starts occur daily.I started by replacing the MAF, as a first option, after reading this forum and searching the net.I didn't clear the codes properly, but first noticed the idle stabilises and the car accelerates stronger. After a couple of days,I start the car but no code or orange light, everything works just fine.
Hope this helped!
Best regards!Razvan
Could be anything but a slightly failing MAF sensor could be the culprit.
You should have the dealer look for stored codes
Dirty Throttle Body!
Seafoam or BG Throttle body for quick, inexpensive fix. In the longer term-add a bottle of Chevron Techrolene to a copule tanks fulls of fuel.
A good thing would be the Techrolene and couple hundred mile highway drive.
Let us know what you do and results.
Could also be one of your ignition coils going bad. Unlikely at 45k, but similar symptoms to what I had around 80k, and the culprit was a failing coil.
Thanks all, I'll start with cleaning connector to MAF sensor and sensor itself to ignition coils. I don't think the throttle body would be dirty enough to cause problems yet. They're all highway miles. I'll update when fix is found.
It sure will be the ETM. I seen them do that on all ETM equipped models. After the throttle body decarbon, it fixed the problem. I will suggest a 1.5hrs to do that job.
