More Bad News. Should I get a another car?

Well I posted earlier about an oil leak on my 2001 XC with 15K. I had oil all over the bottom of the engine. Turns out I had a leaking rear main seal. Volvo had to drop the transmission to fix it. Took a couple days.
Get the car back and got a noise now sounds like a belt whining, but it has a metallic sound.
Talking to Volvo they're saying sounds like my turbo fans are hitting the housing when it kicks in. They're real nice about it. Saying they will just call and order a new turbo if thats what it is and they're pretty sure it is.
Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but should I just turn this car in and get a new one, like a 2002? Is this a sign of things to come: repair after repair? Maybe I should get a different car. I'm looking at other wagons. Any recommendations for a luxury wagon with enough room for a rottweiler and a doberman in the back? Need lots of room. Or should I stick with Volvo?

I can't offer much in the way of opinion regarding the past nor possible future difficulties with your XC, but both these problems sound relatively unique based on what I've read here and a couple other website forums. I really don't see tranny seals and turbos needing replacement every 15,000 miles down the road under normal circumstances.

A little story... less than 24 hours after we first got our car, she had to go back to the dealer after a transmission computer failed. Once the first computer was replaced, they realized another had failed. We were without the car for 4 days. Frustrating to say the least and at the start I thought long and hard about disposing of the car, but decided to stick with it, convinced that these were only initial build malfunctions and all would be fine thereafter.  We're now approaching 42,000 km's trouble free. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Granted your car is more experienced than ours was at the time, but I think the issue at hand is the question of confidence and comfort. How do you feel about the car? The last thing you want is to constantly wonder whether or not the car's going to let you down. How about bringing the car to a third party Volvo specialist for a little extra peace of mind?

That said, considering we're nearing the release of the 2003's if you were to get another XC, I'd wait to get the Haldex AWD system.

I would take back the car. Those are very important problems and your car should not be doing that. If it was my car I would stay with Volvos(they are great cars), but i would take it back and get a new one. Good luck

Thx for the advice on a 03Haldex AWD. Don't know why thats better,but I'll take your advice. An outside mechanic said this may be related to my drive train wobble problem that I posted about before. If the drive train is somehow out of alignment then that 'screws' up the rear seal, lack of oil may screw the turbo and etc.
If the wobble isn't dx and fixed his advice was get rid of the car that the problem will happen again.
I go in for the 3rd time tomorrow on the problem and for a new turbo.
Sadly, neccessity required me to contact a lemon law lawyer if this 3rd time isn't the charm. Luckily the warranty is awesome on Volvo's so according to the lawyer I'm not out of luck yet.

I don't wish for you to make any rash decisions, but I would think of exchanging your vehicle for a 2003.  I had a similar problem.  1999 XC with multiple issues.  Brakes every 8.5K (rear) 12K (front).  Constant electrical problems with bulbs and switches burning out on a regular basis.  Oil consumption on the order of 1 Qt/1000mi.  The Volvo dealership attributed most of the problems "to my type of driving".  They did acknowledge the electrical problems.

I finally decided this car must have been built on a Monday.  I turned it in for my 2002.  

I still love the Volvo.  Safest car in the world.  You could buy a Mercedes but you could still have numerous problems and it would cost you 1.5X the cost of the Volvo.

A Volvo "FTS" (?) said this is like a Neutral Control problem and isn't and others reported it and they did a software fix. Tomorrow dealer will install new software on the vehicle.
Turbo was replaced and reportedly Volvo research asked for the turbo back to check it out, that its such a rare problem. I don't know about that being rare or not.
Sunroof went out. They're going to "reset" it.
