Our first volvo was a 92 Volvo 940 that we bought new in 92. It was a very reliable car and was easy to repair. I am a driver by trade and mechanically inclined so I always try to fix my cars my self to save on dealership costly repairs. In 2014 we purchased a 2009 Volvo xc70 from a dealer. It seemed like it would be a good family car and was until the head gasket blew 3 years later. I replaced that but did not have the heads surfaced and should have because I found evidence of oil and gas in the coolant resevoir and the heating system wasn't working properly. I then decided to replace the engine with another second hand engine but a little newer and low mileage. That was a big job but it solved the problem and it still running fine except for overheating issues in the summer when the air conditioner is on. I have replaced the rad, water pump, and coolant but still have the same issue in the summer months. I have done quite a few repairs and replacements on this car. While I enjoy solving mechanical problems in this car it is time consuming and I'm not getting any younger. Due to Covid I have been out of work over a year now, and am stuck with this car and its repairs at least until I get a new job. Being a member of this forum will be very helpful to me in finding solutions to the mechanical issues that arise in this car and to keep it running. I would also enjoy sharing any experience and knowledge of mechanical mysteries I have solved over the years with members of this forum.
