I am a new Volvo owner. I just purchased a 2002 Volvo XC70. It is not a CPO. It had one previous owner with all service records. It has 44,500 miles. The independent dealer where I purchased it did everything that the Independent Volvo Mechanic suggested needed to be done prior to my purchase. This independent dealership sent the car out to a transmission specialist and flushed it and used AMSoil to refill.

OK, here is what is happening. The car has been sitting overnight or even after sitting for 1 hour (noticed this time period today) I notice a pedal shudder when moving through 1st gear. The shudder is very short and brief. If I continue to drive, I do not notice the shudder after stopping at intersections. The shifting through the gears seems to be fine. It is only after the car has been sitting and only as it goes through 1st gear.

What could it be? Thanks for your thoughts on this.

I have no clue, but could it possibly be the anti-lock brakes doing their diagnostic thing that they do when you first start up and drive off? It makes a bit of noise too, and other new XC owners have asked about it.

Does it only happen when you first drive off after starting the car?

From my manual:
Anti- lock Brake System (ABS)
The ABS system in your car performs a self- diagnostic test when the vehicle first reaches the speed of approximately 12 mph (20 km/ h). The brake pedal will pulsate several times and a sound may be audible from the ABS control module. This is normal.

The speed sounds about right and it is right after start up. The car would have been sitting for an hour at least. The only difference is the shudder is not felt through the brake pedal. The shudder is felt through the gas pedal.

Do you think it could still be the same thing?
