Just had 22.5k miles service done at the dealership, and one of the notes that came with it was remaining front and rear brakes wear. Both are at 6mm.

Since this is my first XC, would be nice to know as to what I should be expecting. What’s the live expectancy of the original brake pads for the XC70, and how often do you change them? Do they last 30, 40, 50k+ miles?

Thanks.

Brake pad life varies greatly depending on the type of driving you do. City, stop-go, hilly and twisty road driving will wear pads fast. Long highway trips with light traffic density cause low pad wear relative to mileage.

My car has about 7 mm front pad thickness at 31,000 total miles, with about 70% mostly-flat highway miles.

Normal city AND highway driving, between 34 and 40K for both, front and rear.
With AWD Volvos the rears wear as fast as the fronts

I had our front pads changed at 23,000 miles (!) with 4mm of depth left. This early mileage initially shocked me but I've never owned a car this heavy before and it is used mostly for city driving.

I mostly do city driving, and I had to have my brake pads replaced after 50K. I am certain that by the time I reach 100K, I will have to have my pads and rotors replaced.

I do a dailey mixture of city, rural mountain, and highway driving. My front pads had to be done at 60K miles and my rear pads at 80k.

My car sees mixed suburban driving.

I replaced the front pads at 38,500, and found I was 80% of the way to the condemning limit, so I could have gone a while longer.

I looked at the rear pads through the caliper and they seemed to have a long way to go.

LOL

105K at the moment & still on original pads/discs!

Last service they reckoned that I would need to change the rear pads/discs soon as at 30% life left on the disc & 70% on the front discs.

Mainly motorway driving but then I've got a manual and use engine breaking a lot (diesel too). Also am a late/hard breaker into roundabouts.
