Any reason not to go with the oem valeos? Anyone else making something in a similar flat style that's more effective? We've been happy with ours but I'm not averse to something new.

Anybody know the stock size and whether or not there is a difference between driver and passenger? The manual indicates that there is a size difference. Not surprisingly the manual doesn't indicate the size of the wipers.

Any sources on purchase locations other than Amazon or dealers? volvo parts web doesn't carry them.

LWW,

I'm not aware of any replacement blades (other than oem Valeo) that are compatible with the 2005 + wiper arms. Blade lengths for our XC are 24" (driver) and 22" (passenger)

I did come across these 2 for 1 versions that also offer the convenience of changeable refills. It's not clear whether they have adapters that will fit the newer style arms.

I bought replacement inserts at Autozone. The local Napa store did not carry the correct sizes. Drivers side is about 2 0r 3 inches shorter than passenger side. the computer system at Autozone had the correct info on the sizes. The inserts went in easily. Also got the rear window insert replacement. I forget the brand name, but it is one that is OEM on many car makes.

Thanks that helps a lot.

...that commercial is too funny.

Don't get the ones off amazon...they won't attach to Volvo's proprietary hookup.

My service writer said some folks with 05+ cars are swapping the arms for earlier conventional arms and blades. Not as aerodynamic but not as lame in the winter either. [thumbup]

Unfortunately not an option for my V50.

If snows an issue nothing beats a simple rubber encased winter wiper.

I think the low profile jobs do a comparable job to the old style. As an upside snow and ice doesn't get frozen and stuck inside all the metal.

I bought the v e r y expensive blades from the dealer to replace my worn set but...
I also took apart the older ones and fitted a set of new rubber replacements, still available at some older gas stations here in Greece.
Cost? About $5
The operation is not exactly easy but it took me half an hour to do both blades.
OK the aero top section is not there but if my new blades kick the bucket while I'm on the road, I have a perfect replacement sitting in the luggage compartment undertray.
Gone are the days when you could buy wiperblades for the price of a couple of gallons of fuel...

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy replacement wiper blades for a 2005 XC70 besides the dealer? (whose price is truly outrageous).

Thanks

I finally broke down and used the dealer last week. I spent $70 for two sets (4 wipers, 2DF, 2PF).
I forgot how nice new wipers are...no streaks and perfectly clear.

Any North American XCers had any luck finding these Valeo replacement wiper blades for the MY05+ XC70?

I think you can get them from Tirerack: http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/valeo/ultimate.jsp,

but from Littlewaywelt's post it seems the pricing was better at his dealer.

Pricing at Tire Rack seems very high. We replaced a pair of the same wipers for my wife's S80 last fall for about $40.00

Yikes. If I'm looking at the tire rack listing correctly, it's $52 for a pair.
With a 10% VCOA parts discount I got two sets of wipers (4 wipers) for $75.00 (+/-$5) with tax.

I got a pair of front wipers for $23 at my dealer. I was hoping to just buy the blade replacement but was surprised that the wiper arm was part of the set. Part number 274481

Boston Volvo Village on-line parts store is selling the Volvo OEM front wipers at a good discount if you buy two pair. Great deal if you are local and can pick them up (what I did), but still a savings even if you have them shipped.

My first post on the board. Bought a 2002 V70XC in Jan 2007.

I bought a pair of front wipers today from Checkers. Drivers side Trico p/n 24-9 ($17.99) and passenger side Trico p/n 22-9 ($13.99).

Also put on a pair of Sylvania Silverstars, H7ST ($24.99). They seem brighter...we'll see.

Hey to stevel0923, I grew up in Tiverton.
