I've been checking the board all day for anecdotes on the XCs' performance in that huge dump of snow in the land where most drivers and most vehicles have little or no experience with so much white stuff http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif. Got any tales to share?

Ditto -- I was told NJ got some 24" today and several places a friend called in NY didn't answer! --- just where are those stories http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Toots I hate to tell you this but we get snow every winter in New England. I live in metro Boston and the winter average here is 44". I'm sure nowhere near as much as folk further north but we are used to driving in it.

So far half way through this winter we have had 46", not counting the current storm, so as I was just telling Art in another thread, many townships are clean out of snow plowing/removal money already. We are expecting to get between 24-30" in this storm, which is a big one.

Today is a holiday (Presidents Day) and normally a day for bargain sales, particularly on cars. However the Governor of Massachusetts and the Mayor of Boston have asked motorists to stay off the roads so the crews can work and most people have done that, including me. So the XC is sitting in the garage and I am recovering from shovelling the driveway... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

LOL, I find it funny that this is probably one of the only car forums on the Internet where pretty much every member looks forward to heavy snow and wintry conditions, and express disappoinment when we don't get it!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Here's how some of the others are coping:

I got to play up on Cypress this morning where they had a few new cm's, but nowhere near as good as you guys have it back East http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Here on the Central Alberta flats, snow and subzero temps are pretty much a fact of life. So far this winter has been relatively mild in comparison with previous years. The thing is, once the snow does begin to fly, it generally likes to stick around.

After spending years of shovelling and enduring freezing cold, it can become somewhat tiring. However, on days like today when the mercury hovers around a balmy -10 C, and the snow makes everything look so pure and white, it makes it easy to forget you have another 50 ft of driveway to shovel. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

HHHMMM, perhaps there is a market for a plow for the front of the XC. Then you get the best of both world's - a shoveled/plowed driveway while in the comfort of your XC plus the opportunity to drive it in the snow. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Not much snow here in Stuttgart this winter - but I'll be looking forward to taking my XC down into the Alps and putting it to the test - relatively speaking. Cheers to all!

We've had some snow in January here in Holland, but unfortunately I picked up my XC on Valentine's Day so I wasn't able to test drive the car in the snow http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
I'd love to try the AWD in thick snow. could be a lot of fun! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif I guess we won't be seeing any snow until next year.

So right now it is just after 8:30 in metro Boston, and we have had 27.5 inches of snow since 11am yesterday. Last night when I was shovelling the driveway it was apparently falling at the rate of 4"/hour, which is pretty fast.

Going out to do some more shovelling... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You've got that right! I'm getting so friggin pissed up here in Vermont. 1/2" of snow out of this storm! We've been getting screwed on the snowfall amounts all winter. I guess I need to move south to get any snow now. We have'nt had snow in over 7 weeks! The winters are getting to be a joke up here. Either the storm goes south of us - Boston & NYC get hit. Or the storm slams us but it happens to be too warm to snow so we get torrential rain followed by a cold front the next day where it's 10 below. It was over 20 below for most of the weekend so we've paid our dues but still no snow. We were supposed to get at least 3-6" out of the scraps from this storm but sure enough we maybe got 1/2" God I hate New England, what good is winter with no snow.

hehehe - I am knackered from shoveling, I'll tell you that! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Supertoyz - swings and roundabouts - you will get your turn. Metro Boston's average snowfall per year is 44 inches, but last year we had only 14". Today we had twice that in one go, and we are now up to 70+ inches for the winter so far. Metro west areas, like Framingham and Natick have had 100+ inches this winter.

Maybe next year you will get it all... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

One of the major reasons why we selected an XC70 is our plans to return to New England in the next year or so. Love the Boston area and we wanted a car that can handle all the snow driving. However, with snow blizzard like this, its usually best to stay off the road and let the city clean up the mess.

And that's exactly what has happened. For once, Boston drivers have shown a bit of sense! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif

Was out for the last hour in the XC and several secondary roads have been very lightly plowed - makes no difference the car takes it all in stride - it is truly made for these conditions. And I am finding that the Pirelli S/Ts are dealing pretty well with the conditions also. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
