I have an 04 XC70 with around 67,000 miles on it. It has treated me extremely well.

In the morning when it is cold (i.e 15f), it will turn over, then after about 2 seconds, it fires up (which is perfectly normal). A split second after that (when the engine is at ~500 rpm), the engine dies. It doesn't sputter or struggle; it just quits. No warning messages...nothing.

After that, it starts up fine, and runs perfect.

Any ideas?

The search function revealed a faulty fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator may be the cause. Any thoughts?

It could well be the fuel pressure regulator since usually a fuel pump with a bad bearing will typically fail after running for awhile. But make sure that the fuel filter is not the culprit.

That's how my Antenna Ring assembly failure started. Start the car, it fires and then after a second or so dies. Finally reached a point where it would crank and crank but never start.
