OK, we’re all set for the 2006 VolvoXC.com Okanagan Gathering coming up this weekend!
Looks like we’re covered on FRS radios, but just to be safe if you have a pair bring them just in case we start running out of battery life!
The VCOA sent a great care package with lots of great items for the meet, so to save on shipping had it sent to MGC in Seattle. He was up here in Vancouver last week and we met up for a coffee and the package tradeoff. THANK YOU MORRIE!
There are some really great items here. I’m going to get a little more creative with prize distribution this time around, so be prepared and keep your eyes open this trip!
Here’s the plans to date.
Friday, September 30, 2006
11:30am: Head out from along Highway #1
2:00PM: Meet in Hope with Art and John for the drive to Princeton
4:00-5:00pm: Arrive in Princeton to meet up with North Coast XC for dinner/BBQ!
7:00pm-8:00pm: Depart Princeton
9:30pm: Arrive in Osoyoos. Check-in and get settled into hotel(s)
Saturday October 1, 2006
9:00am: Meet for breakfast at previously decided venue
10:30am: Head on over to Nk’Mip Cellars (http://www.nkmipcellars.com/home/) for our 11:00am wine tasting and tour.
12:00pm onwards: Lazily make our way up to Kelowna. Driving at normal speeds you can do the drive in about an hour and a half, but we’re going to be making stops along the way at some of the other local wineries.
Here are some of my favorite Southern wineries that will work reasonably well into the drive.
Burrowing Owl (http://www.bovwine.ca/)
Hester Creek (http://www.hestercreek.com/)
Gehringer Brothers (http://www.winebc.com/wineries/gerhingerbrothers.php) (right across the road from Hester Creek)
Tinhorn Creek (http://www.tinhorn.com/)
Blasted Church (http://www.blastedchurch.com/) (haven’t been here but have had a few bottles and quite like em)
Red Rooster (http://www.redroosterwinery.com/) (a bit off the beaten track in Naramata but it’s my #1 favorite)
Keep in mind, we don’t have to hit all of these and the list is completely open to alternative selections, please discuss!
7:00pm: Arrive in Kelowna and check into hotel(s) and find some dinner, and decide on where to kick off Sunday
Sunday October 2, 2006
9:00am: Meet for breakfast and decide on plan of attack for the day… Generally speaking Sunday will be wide open… More wine tours (there are a number of good ones up here too), drive around to check other stuff out... Malibu Go-Karts, shopping, whatever we want to do.
If it’s more wine tours, here are some, grouped along Westside Road:
Summerhill (http://www.summerhill.bc.ca/)
Cedar Creek (http://www.cedarcreek.bc.ca/)
St Hubertus (http://www.st-hubertus.bc.ca/) And here are some more, grouped around the Westbank area.
Mt Boucherie (http://www.mtboucherie.bc.ca/)
Quail’s Gate (http://www.quailsgate.com/)
Mission Hill (http://www.missionhillwinery.com/default.asp) (a very impressive building and company)Depending on what we end up deciding to do, I’d suspect a late lunch at around 2:00 or 3:00, then go our separate ways after that.
I’ll make this the somewhat official itinerary so please post here if you’ve got any additions and I’ll add them in as we go along!
Looking forward to a great weekend!
Taylor.
