OK, we’re all set for the 2006 VolvoXC.com Okanagan Gathering coming up this weekend!

Looks like we’re covered on FRS radios, but just to be safe if you have a pair bring them just in case we start running out of battery life!

The VCOA sent a great care package with lots of great items for the meet, so to save on shipping had it sent to MGC in Seattle. He was up here in Vancouver last week and we met up for a coffee and the package tradeoff. THANK YOU MORRIE!

There are some really great items here. I’m going to get a little more creative with prize distribution this time around, so be prepared and keep your eyes open this trip!

Here’s the plans to date.

Friday, September 30, 2006
11:30am: Head out from along Highway #1
2:00PM: Meet in Hope with Art and John for the drive to Princeton
4:00-5:00pm: Arrive in Princeton to meet up with North Coast XC for dinner/BBQ!

7:00pm-8:00pm: Depart Princeton

9:30pm: Arrive in Osoyoos. Check-in and get settled into hotel(s)
Saturday October 1, 2006
9:00am: Meet for breakfast at previously decided venue

10:30am: Head on over to Nk’Mip Cellars (http://www.nkmipcellars.com/home/) for our 11:00am wine tasting and tour.

12:00pm onwards: Lazily make our way up to Kelowna. Driving at normal speeds you can do the drive in about an hour and a half, but we’re going to be making stops along the way at some of the other local wineries.

Here are some of my favorite Southern wineries that will work reasonably well into the drive.

Burrowing Owl (http://www.bovwine.ca/)
Hester Creek (http://www.hestercreek.com/)
Gehringer Brothers (http://www.winebc.com/wineries/gerhingerbrothers.php) (right across the road from Hester Creek)
Tinhorn Creek (http://www.tinhorn.com/)
Blasted Church (http://www.blastedchurch.com/) (haven’t been here but have had a few bottles and quite like em)
Red Rooster (http://www.redroosterwinery.com/) (a bit off the beaten track in Naramata but it’s my #1 favorite)
Keep in mind, we don’t have to hit all of these and the list is completely open to alternative selections, please discuss!

7:00pm: Arrive in Kelowna and check into hotel(s) and find some dinner, and decide on where to kick off Sunday

Sunday October 2, 2006
9:00am: Meet for breakfast and decide on plan of attack for the day… Generally speaking Sunday will be wide open… More wine tours (there are a number of good ones up here too), drive around to check other stuff out... Malibu Go-Karts, shopping, whatever we want to do.

If it’s more wine tours, here are some, grouped along Westside Road:

Summerhill (http://www.summerhill.bc.ca/)
Cedar Creek (http://www.cedarcreek.bc.ca/)
St Hubertus (http://www.st-hubertus.bc.ca/) And here are some more, grouped around the Westbank area.

Mt Boucherie (http://www.mtboucherie.bc.ca/)
Quail’s Gate (http://www.quailsgate.com/)
Mission Hill (http://www.missionhillwinery.com/default.asp) (a very impressive building and company)Depending on what we end up deciding to do, I’d suspect a late lunch at around 2:00 or 3:00, then go our separate ways after that.

I’ll make this the somewhat official itinerary so please post here if you’ve got any additions and I’ll add them in as we go along!

Looking forward to a great weekend!

Taylor.

I'm afraid that we won’t be able to make the Friday breakfast GTG graciously hosted by Taylor and Tricia, so it’s likely we'll just drive on to Princeton and try our best to meet there at the posted time. I'll be sure to keep our phone line open just in case we’re running late.

That itinerary sounds fine by us but just to let everyone know that we're flexible with whatever suits the group. We've pre-booked a room at the Holiday Inn for Friday evening and will be staying with family in Kelowna on Saturday.

I can confirm that I will be ready for breakfast at Taylor's fine abode. We're currently on Pender Island, with Faye off to Ottawa/Montreal for the week while I'm heading for Vancouver tomorrow (Sunday) night. I will be working out of our Vancouver office through Thursday, so will head over and meet you guys on Friday morning.

I made a hotel reservationfor Friday night and will just play it by ear for Saturday. It will be good to get together with you folks again but I'd better get the car washed this time.;)

Is there any way you guys (gals) will have a laptop and wifi access? It would be cool to be able to track and/or plot your progress along the way. You could post real time pix of the journey as well.

Just a thought.

A couple edits which will be reflected in the first post shortly...

Friday breakfast has been nixed as the guest list has been whittled to, err, none. We will keep in touch by phone on Friday morning to see where we should meet up, perhaps Hope in the afternoon sometime?

The Princeton visit at North Coast XC's, which will now be later than originally planned, has now been upgraded to a dinner barbeque!

That's all for now, check back with this thread for updates, and if you're going to be attending, please be sure to email me your cell phone number and associated contact information so we can get in touch if need be!

Probably won't have wifi for real time updates, but I assure you the trip will be just as well documented as our previous excursions. :D

Hi everyone.

Looking foward to the weekend! Just bring yourselves to Princeton; we are arranging all for the bbq. Were also lucky to receive a few items from Kelowna Volvo - thank you so much Brenda!

I have to let everyone know that we are not going to make the gathering this year. Several conflicts have arisen with out of town guest arriving plus I have to travel on Sunday for a business meeting.

I'm sure everyone will have a great time and I look forward to hearing about the trip in future postings.

I look forward to seeing pix of your trek. Sounds like a great time. It'd be great to do one here in the north east.

It was a great trip which I will have to repeat with my wife. We look forward to seeing pictures of our esteemed leader's vehicle as it seemed a bit low to the ground with the (ahem) fruits of this tour.

It was an awesome trip and the drive from Osoyoos to Kelowna was a memorable one for sure. Even though we didn’t partake in the wine tasting sessions, I heartily endorse driving this stretch of road for the spectacular scenery alone.

In defense of Taylor’s stash of vino, we mustn’t forget that he also had his family along for the weekend. ;)

Thanks again to Taylor, VCOA, and Patrick (aka NorthcoastXC) for bringing the Volvo Swag. Hats off also to NorthcoastXC and his wife Shala for providing the superb meal for the crew on Friday evening.

Looking forward to the full trip report Taylor!. [thumbup] In the meantime, here are a few parting shots of our own. :)

yeah, I'd say we went a little overboard on the wine purchases, but all in good fun... It's not like the stuff goes bad or anything! :D

I'm not too sure when I'll be able to put together a full story, but the pics are now up:

Just popped in to take a look at things - and I'm real sorry to have missed this GTG. As I said earlier, daughter came up from SF to visit with my brother over from the UK.

As always - you guys laid on a great meeting and hopefully nxt year I can make it.

I'll take a gander at the pics and most likely will be drooling with envy. ;) :)
