The A/C in my car is gone. I've had it charged a few times and it stays cold for about 1-2 months. The local Volvo dealer wants $1600 to replace the evaporator which he says the whole dash has to come out. The local A/C shop also says the evap is leaking and can fix it for about $650 if I get the evaporator. I found them on ebay for around $100. Are these as good as OEM? Should I stick with the stealer or go with the local guy?
My bigest fear is paying for the work and then them finding out it is something else. Now my bill rises like crazy!
Also, my preferred way to cope is to add R134 myself but when I bought some in a can and tried to add it, it never took. Is there an easy way to add this or do you have to have the big fancy machine?
What is the best route.
I have a 1998 XC70 with 116,000 miles.
