I saw one of these parked up the hill. A "remote extended camping" vehicle called an EarthRoamer. Only $200k. Ever seen one in your area? I gotta win the lottery.

Big,

That Earthroamer is a pretty spiffy rig.

I spotted a couple of pretty cool camperized Unimogs while walking around the local hood here in Victoria, B.C. One was even equipped with a snorkel for aquatic adventures. :D

That's a nice neighborhood you live in!

Yes, Unimogs and their derivatives are often compared to the EarthRoamer and similar truck-based campers. I love this version with the Smart Car on the back:

Of course, Volvo 4x4 trucks are used in Europe to make Unimog-style campers. It would be a kick to have one of those although importing and maintaining it would be consuming challenges. These expedition vehicles are fun and macho, but from my brief experience in one they are also uncomfortable and slow. The EarthRoamer may not be as rugged but would be much better for trips that involve a lot of highway miles to get to the backcountry as is the case in the U.S.

UNICAT (http://www.unicatamericas.com/en/index2-Historie.html) recently opened a U.S. branch that will be making street-legal expedition vehicles based on Freightliner Unimog, International 7400 and Dodge Ram 5500 chassis... at around twice the cost of a tricked out EarthRoamer...

Just sent 6 of those little Smart cars to the ISS (yes... the International Space Station). God knows what they will do there or even how big the ISS is but there will be some of them roaming above the skys shortly. [thumbup]
