My wife's Sube Wagon will have WRs, and I am going to have pure summer times for the XC plus a set of pure winter tires, Hakka 2's. On ugly days, she will take the XC. A shop in Colorado told me that they stud just the inside side of Hakka 2's. They said it makes a huge difference on noise, because the noise is under the car instead of at the outer edge too. But they still bite on ice.

Anyone heard of this curious practice? Any drawbacks? I would think that the wear pattern would be weirdly affected.....

Hmmm, very-very-very strange. After 4th winter season (from November to April ) my wife’s set of Michelin Ivalo has only 50% of studs and still much noisy compared to my set of STR’s.
