View Full Version : XC70 with Painted bumpers?

Last weekend I was driving on Highway 24 from Walnut Creek back to San Francisco. I passed a white P2 XC70, and couldn't believe it when I noticed it had painted bumpers. The whole thing was solid white, no dark plastic/rubber bumpers like every other P2 I've ever seen. Did someone get this done, or were there certain models with painted bumpers? I thought it looked really cool, but in San Francisco, painted bumpers are just a liability.

Thanks,

- Eli

Eli,

Your eyes weren’t playing tricks on you. The owner likely had his cladding custom painted as others in the past have done. It really does makes a statement when paired with the right set of wheels.

On a personal note, the contrasting cladding suits me just fine. :)

The white XC you saw probably looked very similar to this one that used to be JRL's car:

Those sized wheels on an XC70 look cartoonish to me, bling factor too high imho.

hmmmmmmmmm

The car posted by Art makes me salivate.
Bling or not, it is stunning.

In fact if you consider that most XCs rarely venture off road

(Danni K you re excluded...)

Volvo could have gotten away with 17 inch wheels and our car would look much more modern.

Just MHO

The Heico 18' Volutions with 50 series tires, turn the family schlepper into a veritable Viking battleaxe.

Think about it, this car's grandad used to blow the competition in British saloon car races fifteen years ago.

Oh great color scheme too.
Can anyone describe the work involved in painting these plastic surfaces?

But still people buy the XC instead of the lower-sitting road-going versions.

In my case, for instance, driving 90% on road and 10% off road and in winter conditions is about right.

The R and the V70AWD would not go this, very essential to me, 10%.

A set of 18' wheels would suit me nicely.
And I like the look too.
I believe 16' wheels make the car look outdated.

How about a poll?

Percentage of off road vs on road driving.
Should be interesting.

Mate, it'll be very expensive to get it down under(i.e. import your own). They look like 18" or even 19" Heico Volution V wheels. [happy]

Yeah mate, i just had a chat with one of the guys working at bon jane t-marts he recons i would be able to get a set of good 18' wheels with tyres for around $3000 aussie or 19' for $3700

i better start saving :D

I went with 17" alloys and got Pegasus in the end, A$2500 all up including wheel alignment. Watch out for the offset for XC70s and 5x108 bolt pattern. There was only one alloy with Bob Jane with 5x108mm bolt pattern, made for Bob Jane and branded as RJR(Rodney Jane Racing). If you want factory alloys, importing is cheaper. [happy]

The V70AWD and XC70 have a one inch difference in ride height right? I doubt that inch makes any difference 98% of the time, especially the places that XCs are likely to go (grass and dirt trails being the roughest). One inch probably doesn't make much difference in snow either. 18 inch wheels and the street tires that go on them won't do at all on trails.

I was always under the impression that 95% of the differences between the xc70 and v70 awd are cosmetic, anyway. True? Not true?

Our car goes on fireroad but that's about it.
