been a while since we did this and I'm thinking it'd be best to make it a fresh one so as not to skew the stats so here we go.

And for the record, I'm 2001 and of course still loving every drive... :D

Well, it's about time Tay! ;) Been a while since we've seen multiple posts from ya. I guess work and being an expectant father has a lot to do with that. Great to see you back in form. [happy]

indeed good to be back, for a while at least in typing form... But don't think that means I've not been here. I check all the time but just don't have new information to offer... Either that or the time to type out what it is I do have to say :D

That said though, I'm a gonna have to get the ole XC cleaned up for a photo shoot. As mentioned over in the OT, Ive got the camera back so looking forward to taking some new shots :)

Talk to you soon and at that... Maybe get on MSN eh?... Haven't seen ya around for quite some time :D

Road Trip! Road Trip!

It's feeling like spring out there.
Taylor is back.

It must be time to plan a PNW XC tour. [thumbup]

Now if I could only get some time off!

We've not had any major problems whatsoever. However, it currently is in the dealership for a rear dampening something-or-other. It is still under warranty and is getting fixed. I'll ask about this in another thread.

Hi guys:

Our MY2003 XC70 is rolling along very smoothly thank you very much. No problems to speak about other than the normal trival stuff.

The plastic grab handle needs TLC to avoid chipping. I've had some thre nicks in it so far and have taken care of it using a Sharpie pen (silver ink) which does a super job of hiding the small nicks.

At almost 40,000 miles we still have decent tread on the Scorpian OEM tires.

I've been running it with reg gas these days because of the gas prices and it seems to run AOK. If the car is to be driven hard with up and down grades I switch temporarily to prem gas though.

Had upper engine mount replaced and front rubber strip at leading edge of hood replaced as original lost its adhesive hold.

Some idiot rip off passenger side fender and front bumper while wife driving and that was repaired without too much ado. The paint job on the new fender is a perfect match and body shop said Volvo does a better paint job than most other auto manufacturers and that actually makes it harder to match up wrt the orange peel finish.

People who ride with us always comment on the car still looking new after some 3 years.

Taylor: The survey might get skewed in favor of newer model years as the members with older models tend to drop off after some 2-3 years.

My 2003 is running great. [thumbup]

I've had to replace the tires and just noticed the door seal is wearing where I get in and out of the drivers side. Too many tight parking slots around here. :D

It's still the finest car I've ever had. Not that I'm prejudiced.

As some of you may know, I've bought my XC used at 73,000 km. The first year of ownership was somewhat a pain in the neck on some unexpected repairs like rear wheel hubs at 90,000 km (still haven't swallowed that one... ) and front suspension table bushings.

But to be honest, with almost 140,000 km on the clock, I've only spent CDN$633.08 (exactly ;) ) since 01/01/2005, mostly on scheduled maintenance, including oil change, tire swap, and ... some bulbs!

Matter of fact, I think I spent more on car wash and detailing stuf "to pet my XC" as Mrs. R. would say! :D

Our 2003 XC70 presently has 78,000 miles and has been a very good car. Like many XC70 owners the upper motor mount has been replaced and recently the muffler mount had to be adjusted for when I would drive in slush it would warp and touch the drive line creating a very loud squeal.

Other than just a few problems the car has been perfect.

Great job Volvo:

By this time next year I will have over 100,000 mile on this car.

My MY'01 has by far been the best Volvo we've owned in 32 years. The old ones were very utilitarian and basic, but ran and ran and ran. Our newer models get more refined and are far from the basic cars they had been back then, at the same time making them more and more appealing for different reasons.

This one's got 62K on her and has been nothing but a pleasure to drive and own. Every trip is as much a pleasure as the first was, and every head that turns makes me as proud as the day we left the dealer with it. Well done Volvo indeed! [thumbup]

Black 2006 with 1000+ miles after one week. During 82" of snowfall in Eastern Sierra's last week the XC70 proved to be a great vehicle for getting to and around Mammoth in wintertime conditions. So far, so good.

2000 volvo v70xc Black, tan interior with 143,900 miles on it. 2hid kits lowbeam/fogs, spoiler, tinted windows. So far happy with it sort of, can be annoying at times with its little problems that cost a lost lol.

A few days short of two months ago, I purchased my 2004 V70XC with only 13,203 miles on it, ...odometer now reads 17,747 miles..... so, in 4,500 enjoyable miles, (....including one 3,000 mile trip), ......no big problems, and very few, very minor irritations.

I like it.

I sometimes wonder if there is an 04 with lower miles?

I have a 2002 with 58,000 miles on it, runs like a champ. The only issue I have had is an alternator replacement which was out of warranty (of course) and cost $750.00 (which is totally crazy).

Loving my 2006 with 1100 miles on it after about 20 days :)

I had it in 2 feet of snow the second day I had it and it was GREAT. Went up untracked hills no problem.

My 2003 has just past 80K miles. Still running beautifully. Had the typical nits, engine mount, rattle in console, fuel door, hose clamp. Wear: brakes and tires.
No matter what CR says, I had more major stuff happen in the first 80K miles of my Lexus.

2002!! I bet I'm the only XC with the lowest miles!! :p

....adding about 350-400 miles per week. [nonono]

Only expenses sofar have been self induced (i.e. upgrades).
Getting close to -finally- replacing my first set of tires and might go to 17" wheels at the same time. As long as the only expenses are regular maintenance I'll keep on "upgrading" this great car [thumbup]

I've got a MY01 with about 78,000 kms. Interesting that so far in the poll this is the most common model, yet has the worst reputation of the models for reliability.

I love my car, but it has had a fair amount of problems. Fan replacement (at my expense), [assenger door lock replacement, power steering container replacement, 2 engine mounts, 8 tyres, and tomorrow I'm taking the car in to check out why it is losing colant (only topped it up 3 weeks ago). I just hope it's not a holed radiator.

Oh yeah, and the "ABS Service Required" message has appeared, but I'm holding off on them looking at that until June when the regular service is due.

Apart from that, smooth sailing ;)

2005 is running beautifully at 23k miles. We've had only a couple of minor problems with it. ...this is what driving/owning a Volvo is meant to be. I'm very glad I stuck with the brand after our 2001 nightmare.

It's going in for it's 23.5 k service next week. I need to get new tires, but haven't decided what yet.

'98 model and it has been a veritable money pit. Like the nursery rhyme, when it is good, it is good, when bad it is horrid.

We've put so many new parts in it that we hate to get rid of it now.

Vehicle has 146K and we put on about 2K per month.

It seems that the majority of members are '01 owners, and from what I have read the '01 has been problematic. However my '01 has been a total delight! 87k miles and just very minor maintenance over the years, transmission flush here, bevel gear resealing there, wacky '02 sensor now and again, but over all it has been a great car!! I have been a Volvo guy for many years and will continue to be for many more.

I'm new to the group and this is my first post. I just purchased an '06 XC70. I haven't even seen it yet. I bought it vie their web site and phone conversations with the dealer. It's in Ohio and I live in Virginia. This is my first Volvo so I'm pretty excited. I won't be able to go and pick it up until next weekend.

I hope you get many many happy miles from your new car. and by the way welcome to our little corner of the web where we try and help each other along the way.

Got a question? just ask or do a search, I am sure someone has asked it before [thumbup]

I'm really surprised at the distrubution here.

Earlier in the thread Barry had mentioned that the newer years would probably get the higher numbers and then gradually drop off with the older models. I was expecting to see the same, but the 01 is the best represented model year on here by a long shot. Also interesting to see fewer 2002 models, perhaps due to the fact that many waited for Haldex in 2003?[happy]

Maybe it's just because the '01 owners are just a little more frustrated and more likely to be on a message board?? :D

I think the reason is, that the more modern model years are purchased by companies and handed over to staff to drive, when something goes wrong they just chop it into the dealer for repairs. Us on the other hand have chosen a model that we wanted and for whatever reason we seem to have hung onto the same model for some time now. I reckon a lot of us will buy the final model year of production because we like what we have and can't see a better version coming in a month of Sundays. Only a thought.:o

Mine is a 2002 with 110k kms (just shy of 70k miles) on the clock. Love this car [happy] although my wife drives it normally to keep milage down (I commute about 65 miles per day in a S60 2.0T). The XC is our long distance car [my beach cottage is more than 700 miles from home] and we had done a number of seriously bad road [not off road] trips in it. :D

Had minor problems with central locking and fuel pump relay - all sorted out under the extended maintenance plan. Other "run of the mill" replacements were front top shock mounts and both driveshafts, which the dealer replaced under the maintenance plan at his own initiative just before expiry of the plan at 100k km.

Did a transmission flush this morning (my first, as I had only recently discovered this forum) and it really made a difference to the shifting smoothness. [thumbup][thumbup]

Well, I am a little late to the party, so here it goes.

2004MY (Black on Black) , purchased used last December with 40K miles.

Issues so far:
- Window regulator (covered)
- Front control arms replaced (my cost)
- ETM failure (yea, I know, not normally an '04 issue, but at least they replaced the module, after spending $$ for usless cleaning)
- Upper and lower torque mounts (my cost)
- Exhaust bracket for squelling (covered)
- Keeping a close eye on the transmission right now.

I love this car, but I still feel like I am driving an egg shell. If I can get a few months without any issues, I will start to gain some confidence.
