I just bought a 2002 XC70, went to replace a burned out fog light bulb for a state inspection, only to find the socket and base were damaged. It's as if the last owner couldn't figure out how to line up the tabs and twist, so they trashed the heck out of the thing.

For my other Volvos, there's always been an abundance of aftermarket (i.e. Taiwan R.O.C.) lamps and lenses. But I'm not seeing much for these fog lights, only Genuine Volvo for 120-130 a pop. I normally wouldn't put cheap parts on this car, but I am not a fog light user, and really just want to get the thing working for inspection. Plus, I've read in this forum that the XC70 fog lights are pretty useless!

You don't need fog lights to pass inspection. As long as your headlights brake light and parking lights than that along with the regular emission test will pass. They never check fog lights.
