Roof Rack Ejection

Anybody ever takin off the roof rack (2001 XC). What does it involve and antbody got any pics? :o

Salient points.
1) Be very careful about removing the caps at the ends of rails. They have three tabs that stick into the rail and are easily snapped off. (Voice of experience unfortunately. The covers at the midpoint more or less spring into place and are less troublesome.
2) If you remove the rails you will have to replace the trim pieces that run from the base of the windshield all the way to the back of the vehicle. I am unsure how much this will cost you but I think it is discussed in one of the threads listed above. $400 sticks in my head for some reason.

The threads discuss more of the pros & cons of permanent removal. (I didn't remove mine. I just replaced them with the newer style that have the brushed aluminum rails.) IMO, most of the pros & cons tie back more to personal opinion. But read for yourself. I personally grew up in an era where a station wagon was a real "stripper" if it didn't have roof racks so I have a strong preference in that direction. :D

None of the instructions links work.
Does anyone have any pictorials on how to remove and replace the rails ?

The links all work for me :D My roof rails squeak, any ideas on how to stop that? There seems to be a flex when I grab the rail in the middle. New screws maybe?

The torx screws do come loose from time-to-time so it's just a matter of removing the caps to gain access.
