2001 XC rear hatch won\'t shut

We love our new 2001 XC but suddenly find that the rear hatch won't fully close: it shuts and even locks, but it is not completely secured--you can pull it out about an inch.
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions!

Sounds like the latch assembly either has to be adjusted or replaced. I had the same problem a couple months ago, and they replaced mine.

In the interim, be careful not to slam it too hard as it could lead to rattles down the road.

I have just had my hatch fixed. It turned out that the striker was out of alignment.
