Just wondering, I'm considering getting one, I really wanted to know owners opinions on how there cross country performs with the upgrade, and how the gas milage is, also if any problems happened due to there ecu upgrade.

Don't know about MY'97-00, but board member XC70Geo has tuned his. Check this thread (http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5234&highlight=tuning).

Volvospeed forums (http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?act=idx)
go there for XC ecu upgrade experiences.
fwiw: stay away from speedtuning.

Why avoid speed tuning ? Are there ecu garbage or does engine damage ? I seen them on ebay doing upgrades

Hi I've got a few questions. I have a 2000 volvo v70xc cross country 2.4 turbo inline 5 cyl, with 190 hsp and 199 lbs. I've heard about ecu upgrades, and wanted to know if there are any side effects of the ecu being upgraded, constant engine lights etc? I already customized my exhaust. My real concern is if over time does it do engine damage, I don't drive hard I drive regular, how many mpg are usually lost with the ecu upgrade ? Also I've got a 1997 volvo 960 wagon, with a 2.9 inline 6 cyl with 181 hsp and 199 lbs, do you guys do ecu upgrades on volvo 960 ?
This was there response
There should be no negative side effects to expect, actually you should be able to get better mileage with a decent drive style, that is what customers report back. Also no real negative long term side effects, we tune a lot of older 850 models, hardly any problems even with high mileage cars.
Yes we should be also able to do the 960 NA engine.
Best regards,
Oliver

I dont know if your 960 is turbocharged, but if it is NA, you are wasting your time. NA tuning on a family car is like buying a $50K Saab

My 97 960 wagon isn't turbo. I'm going to try it on my 00 cross country first, as for the 960 being stuck at 181 hsp kinda sucks compared to its size hoping a ecu upgrade on that would step it over 200and give me more torque.
I know the older pre 95 960's were over 200 hsp but less torque. I notice when I drive the 960 I get a little more pick up than the cross country when I pass a truck, maybe cause the 960 is RWD.

you might as well sell the 960 if you want to get over 200hp with just an ECU. Anyone who tells you an ECU flash can give you 25hp on a NA car is on crack, I thought you only see that kind of thing on ebay

I guess your right, guess I'll just do the ecu on my cross country,
says you got a Z, stick or auto ? My best friend has a 91 300zx auto non turbo, ppl always think his is turbo cause he got the supra style spoiler, and his car is real low lol. I beat his z with the 960 wagon ( told him to maintain his Z) lol
I'll let you guys know how the ecu upgrade goes.

my car is a 3.5L 5 spd, not the old z32 300zx. Totally different car. And no, I dont think a 960 can keep up
