I noticed this black plastic "thing" at the bottom of the rear seat. Anybody knows what is it.

Yep, looks like the hinge for flipping the seats forward to me *shrug*

That is the seat hinge. The red tab can be moved to remove the seat. It's covered in the owners manual.
