XC reviews in Consumer Reports

I've been looking at buying a used 2001 or 2002 XC for hauling the dogs and bikes around. The Consumer Reports reviews seem to indicate these two model years are significantly less reliable than 2003 and newer models. Do you owners find this to be true?

Also, when I go out looking/test driving, are there any problems I should look for (or be aware of) that are specific to the XC model?

Thanks for the info... I guess I won't be buying a 2000 or 2001. I'll look for a higher mileage 2003.
